Nurses' Well-being

Why the focus on Nurses’ Well-being?

Nurses form the bedrock of the Health Care sector of any nation, fighting in the trenches and tending to the sick and dying. We are on the front line taking the hard hits while shielding our patients from further sickness and disease. Our sweat and sometimes tears go into their care as we painstakingly execute the doctors’ orders while nursing our patients back to good health.

We take care of our patients but what about our well-being? Who takes care of us after we have taken care of the world? They speak to our access to counselors, but that, at best, is quite limited in the number of sessions we are sometimes given.

GREATER FOCUS MUST NOW BE PLACED ON OUR DEDICATED NURSES TO AVOID ‘BURNOUT’!

What is 'Burnout'?

Workplace ‘burnout’ has been described as a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. As the stress continues unabated, the interest in work and motivation to give one’s best is depleted.

Burnout’ inevitably leads to a marked reduction in the quality of care received by patients.

So, Colleague Nurses:

  • Do you watch the clock, longing for the 12-hour shift to end?
  • Do you sometimes feel like you are wasting your time, or do you think you could find a more productive and rewarding career?
  • Do you still experience job satisfaction, and is the fire or passion for your chosen field of endeavor still burning?
  • Do we as nurses exhibit being healthy, happy, and comfortable, having a sense of contentment with life and a positive outlook on our personal and professional experiences or pursuits?

If this is not so, then we will fail to fulfill the pledge we made to serve our nation and to always give our best! The Oxygen Mask Theory comes clearly to mind. You must first have your mask securely in place before you can safely assist others.

It's action time!

  • A regular, appropriate, and consistent exercise routine.
  • Monitored hydration of your body.
  • Rest because sleep is the body’s call for restoration, repair, and rejuvenation. You cannot survive without adequate sleep.
  • A balanced and improved diet, rich in “immune system boosters” and “stress busters.”
  • The practice of consistent financial management
  • Deletion of negative forces in your life as you surround yourself with love, joy, and happiness as far as possible.

This is where the Nurses Wellbeing Program offered by the Delpha Clarke Enterprise comes into play. We are willing and able to introduce all the factors required to make a positive and lasting change in your lives through a structured BURNOUT PREVENTION PROGRAMME.

I define joy as a sustained sense of well-being and internal peace - A connection to what matters.
